Directional Coupler This is a 2×2 3-port or 4-port coupler, and its function is to take out the optical signals transmitted in different directions in the fiber respectively. The optical signal is transmitted from terminal 1 to terminal 2, a part of which is output from terminal 3 and no output from terminal 4; the optical signal is transmitted from terminal 2 to terminal 1, a part of which is output from terminal 4 and no output from terminal 3.
